Column Store Indexes to the Rescue

Speaker: Dennis Stephani Sentry Insurance

Summary: Column Store Indexing (CSI) is a recent feature of SQL Server that is getting a lot of attention these days. It’s a quick and easy way to get a big performance boost from your analytical databases with little DBA effort and no programming changes. If you’ve got some questions about CSI (or are not even sure what they are), you should attend this session. Dennis will share with you some of the performance increases seen in their testing, how the basic storage is different, tactics SQL is using to get these benefits, and share with you challenges encountered.

About Dennis: Dennis Stephani has been working with databases for the past 30 years with SQL Server for 18. As part of his full-time job as a SQL DBA, he enjoys working with the programming tools for automation – including PowerShell and C#.net. He enjoys his off-hours with his family of 4 children and wife of 26 years. He looks forward to the summer months riding his motorcycle and building projects around his home.
