SQL Performance – Racing with Indexes

Speaker: Andrew Corbisier, DBA Sentry Insurance

Summary: You are an engineer who hears some clanking with your query(engine). Users are not happy and are not arriving at their destination in a timely fashion, if at all. In fact, occasionally you appear to be blocking the freeway. What can you do to tune up your query? What can you do to make it go fast like Ricky Bobby? Come learn some simple basics about indexes, indexing strategies, statistics, and basic query plans to make spin some tires and do a query-burnout.

About Andrew: Previously a software engineer of many years who came down with the SQL-fever bad. Now a full-fledged database administrator helping solve insurance database problems at Sentry insurance. Avoiding SELECT * in Production and enjoying swift, efficient queries since 2018. In my free time you might find be hiking, fishing, rock-climbing, or driving on some rustic backroads of Wisconsin with my family.
